About

Turkey's capital, Ankara has a fascinating blend of history and contemporary life. While often overshadowed by Istanbul, Ankara has its unique charm, boasting landmarks such as the ancient Roman Temple of Augustus and the imposing Ataturk Mausoleum, dedicated to the founder of modern Turkey.

The city is perched atop a steep hill crowned by the Ankara Citadel, offering panoramic views of the metropolis. With a youthful energy from its student population and a burgeoning tech and business scene, Ankara is evolving into a modern hub. Known for its vibrant cultural scene, the city hosts various festivals, museums, and theatres, creating a dynamic atmosphere reflecting its historical roots and progressive spirit.

History

Anıtkabir, meaning "Memorial Tomb," is a monumental and symbolic structure in Ankara, dedicated to the founder of modern Turkey, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk. Anıtkabir not only honors Atatürk's memory but also stands as a national shrine and a symbol of Turkey's commitment to the principles of democracy, independence, and modernity.

Standing atop a hill with a commanding view of the city, the famous Ankara Castle bears witness to the city's long history, spanning the Roman, Byzantine, and Ottoman eras. Reminiscent of Ankara's importance in the Roman era are the well-preserved marble inscriptions of the Temple of Augustus and Rome. In the Ulus neighbourhood of the city, the Haci Bayram Mosque, a prime example of Ottoman architecture, is an architectural and spiritual treasure.
